I am a member of a federally recognized Native American Tribe in Michigan. I think this would make a big, loud announcement of its importance in the surrounding rural areas and hopefully spark change.”

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, UNITED STATES, August 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Is your workplace lactation room in need of a serious refresh? Nominations are officially open for the 9th Annual Lactation Room Contest, dedicated to transforming workplace pumping spaces into comfortable, high-tech, and supportive havens for working parents.

Anyone (including parents, employers, and workplace advocates) can nominate an organization to win a lactation room upgrade, plus an exclusive personal prize package for a new parent. Nominations will be accepted through September 7, 2026, coinciding with the conclusion of Workplace Lactation Week™.

This year's contest features a total prize pool valued at $22,895, awarding two Grand Prize winners and one Runner-Up.

TRANSFORMING WORKPLACES AND SUPPORTING WORKING FAMILIES

Past winners Apptegy, General Motors (GM), and the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Government Center demonstrate the transformative impact this contest has on workplaces across industries.

Last year's winner, Apptegy, experienced rapid growth among its working parent community. "Apptegy is a phenomenal tech company that works with over 5,000 school districts across North America. It’s a really empowering place for women in particular to work," said Sarah Cole, a new mother at Apptegy. "We went from one Mother’s Room to three! It’s exciting!" Sofia Villegas, HR Specialist at Apptegy, added, "We love our moms, and we have created a safe and comfortable space for them."

For other organizations, winning meant sparking crucial cultural change and accessibility. Amber Peterson, a new mom at the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Government Center, shared her experience: "I am a member of a federally recognized Native American Tribe in Michigan. We are a marginalized group. Breastfeeding awareness lacks at my workplace, and I think this would make a big, loud announcement of its importance in the surrounding rural areas and hopefully spark change. I just had my 1st child and think a lactation room is a necessity for returning to work."

At General Motors' California Advanced Design facility, winning provided vital support during major transitions. George Velazquez, Facilities Manager at General Motors, noted, "Being chosen as the lactation room contest winner was huge for GM and the staff onsite because we built a modern lactation room all sites could use as a model for how one should be. We wanted to ensure our lactation room is a place of pride."

This year, three winning workplaces will receive top-tier upgrades designed to elevate employee well-being, including hospital-grade multi-user breast pumps (Ameda Pearl or Spectra S3), dual collection kits, Healthy Horizons reclining lactation chairs, Zenoff My Brest Friend nursing stools, lactation room guides, and a furniture and decor budget.
Winners will also receive Healthy Horizons Breast Milk Shipping programs, milk transport duffle bags, microwave steam sterilizer bags, breast pump soaps and wipes, hand sanitizers, lotions, a Healthy Horizons Back to Work Class, and a one-time Lactation Room Servicing™ (conditions apply).

In addition to room transformations, two winning new parents will receive an individual luxury prize package featuring Zomee wearable hands-free pumps, designer pump bags, breast milk chillers, organic body care, and lactation supplements.
