Trump Slams Canada Over ‘Fraudulent’ Ad
Trump explained on his Truth Social platform that "legal options" were being explored in response. He stated, "Canada was caught, red handed, putting up a fraudulent advertisement on Ronald Reagan’s Speech on Tariffs."
The Reagan Foundation, which responded to the controversy, clarified that they "created an ad campaign using selective audio and video of President Ronald Reagan.
The ad misrepresents the Presidential Radio Address," adding that the foundation "did not seek nor receive permission to use and edit the remarks."
The president further accused Ottawa of using the ad to manipulate the U.S. Supreme Court in hopes of overturning tariffs that Canada has historically used to "hurt" Washington.
Trump emphasized that this move was designed to protect the U.S. from "high and overbearing Canadian Tariffs" and tariffs from other nations as well.
Trump also pointed out that "Ronald Reagan LOVED Tariffs for purposes of National Security and the Economy," contradicting the message presented in the ad, which suggested otherwise. Despite knowing the ad was "a FRAUD," Ottawa allowed it to air during the World Series, which Trump called a "serious misrepresentation of the facts, and hostile act."
